SAPI Sandstrahltechnik

A manufacturer's own trade shop: ten languages, net-and-gross prices on every product, and a checkout that doesn't argue with a purchasing department.

What the problem was, and what changed

The problem

SAPI build blasting machines, cabinets and abrasive and sell them across Europe. Selling that catalogue online is not a matter of listing products: a buyer is comparing air throughput and cabinet sizes, expects to see the net price because they reclaim the VAT, and is often not reading German.

The result

A Magento 2 shop on a Hyvä front end, in ten languages, with the technical attributes of each machine as filters, net and gross shown on every price, and Stripe on the checkout. Custom modules cover the parts of the trade that no cart does out of the box.

Priced the way the trade actually buys

A business buying a blasting cabinet reclaims the VAT, so the number that matters to them is the net one — and the number the law requires you to show a consumer is the gross one. The shop shows both, on every product, everywhere: the net price large and the gross underneath it, with the VAT rate named.

Each product also carries its own delivery estimate rather than one shipping promise for the whole catalogue, because a pallet of abrasive off the shelf and a made-to-order blast hall are not the same wait, and pretending otherwise is how a first order becomes a complaint.

A category page listing extraction units, each with a large net price in red and the gross price with VAT beneath it, alongside a filter panel for category, filter type, air throughput and price.
Net large, gross underneath, VAT named. The filter panel is the technical spec, made searchable.

Filters that know what the machine does

The catalogue is filtered on the things an engineer is actually choosing between — filter type, air throughput, price — not on colour and size. That means the technical attributes have to be modelled properly as product data rather than written into a description where nothing can search them.

It is the least glamorous part of a shop like this and the part that decides whether anyone finds the right machine.

The same shop in English, with the navigation, banner and product names all translated.

Ten languages, one catalogue

German, English, Slovenian, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Slovak, Polish, Czech and Croatian — each a real storefront rather than a machine translation bolted over the top, all reading from one product catalogue so a price or a stock figure is changed in one place.

Stripe handles the checkout. The rest — the parts of a manufacturer's trade that no cart does out of the box — is custom modules on a Hyvä front end, which is what keeps a shop this size loading like a small one.
